The state legislature needs to work with big city mayors to examine government policies and their impacts on central cities. Too many well meaning programs or policies are actually hurting cities and making the job of rebuilding cities more difficult.
Preparing taxes for the Accounting Aid Society for low income taxpayers has given a very good glimpse of the effect government programs are having on our major cities.
It is a classic case of unintended consequences.
The liberal backed section eight and conservative backed for profit charter schools and schools of choice are both having the same impact. They are driving people out of the central cities in droves.
