Body Cameras for police officers.
A city in California has required all officers to wear body cameras. The result has been a reduction of police brutality by 60%, and claims of police brutality by 88%. This is surely a combination of better police conduct and less false charges. The cameras cost $400 and will save money in less payouts and less legal fees defending against false charges. The cameras seem to have a calming effect and result in better behavior on both sides.
Stop militarizing police forces
The images of Ferguson, Mo. Are straight out of Iraq. America needs a clear distinction between the military and the police. This is just not an issue of large cities distrusting police forces. The images of a militarized police force is very likely to see conservative groups with a strong distrust of government start arming themselves to the hilt.
